We are a family-owned business, with 75 years of aviation service and flight instruction in the Durango area

1950
James Floyd Gregg Sr. (aka “Pappy”), only a few short years from WWII, began pursuing his passion for aviation. He trained aviators in Grand Junction, CO as a civilian training pilot in a fleet of J-3 Cubs. Living in Durango and doing accounting at Beneficial Finance, he decides to throw caution to the wind and start Gregg Flying Service.

1952
Durango’s airfield was on what the locals called “Reservoir Hill” where Fort Lewis College is now located. A deal was struck to move the college from Fort Lewis to Durango. The airstrip was orphaned and moved to the current location, 17 miles out of town.

1953
James Floyd Gregg Jr. (“Jim”) joins the now family business training local pilots and taking charter flights. They manage to survive for twenty-five years.

1975
Delvin Gregg (“Del”), Jim’s son, joins the family business as a mechanic and budding pilot. The county contract is not renewed, and Jim develops an Air Park like he had seen on some of his charter flights. Pappy retires.

1976
The airstrip was built, and Animas Airpark was officially born. As the airpark grew, so did Del’s aviation career. He began charter flying and doing aircraft maintenance.

1990
Jim retires and Del takes over the airpark.

Today
A growing maintenance group with enthusiastic mechanics who keep the fleet and customers safe and airworthy. Able to inspect, repair and rebuild for any problem found or reported. A great training facility with dedicated, inspiring instructors getting students to the pilot’s license in the shortest time possible.
